Senior Social Worker - Thriving Families - until December 2026 Nambour Community Centre Nambour, Sunshine Coast QLD Child Welfare, Youth and Family Services (Community Services and Development) Part time 51 – 53.30 per hour Job Title: Senior Social Worker - Thriving Families - Nambour Community Centre Reports To: Coordinator Thriving Families Supports supervision of a small social work team Working arrangements 29 hours per week (including 8 hours of counselling if skilled) at SCHADS Award level 5. Until end of December 2026 with possible potential to extend. Note: Previous applicants for our recent social work position need not apply. Thank you. Organisational Environment The Nambour Community Centre Inc. has been operating since 1980 and had its genesis in The Meeting Place – a grassroots self-help centre open to all members of the community. In 1998, Nambour Community Centre Inc was born along with a new building that still houses the centre today. Since that period, NCC has gone from strength to strength by taking a developmental approach to its community and the delivery of its programs. NCC employs around 15 staff, has ~25+ volunteers and has a revenue budget approximating 1.4m. Our programs include: Thriving Families family support; Community Development; Multicultural Connections which supports new migrants and a multicultural society and; general community support including access to dignity facilities and emergency relief. The 2022/23 NCC strategic plan outlines our vision as a community committed to social justice and collective wellbeing, empowering people to flourish by working together to foster a healthy, connected and inclusive community. Our values are respect, empowerment, social justice and connection. We are currently finalising our next Strategic Plan for the 2026-2031 period. Job Purpose The Thriving Families Senior Social Worker contributes to the delivery of the Thriving Families program by working collaboratively with the coordinator and the team. The person would bring a positive energy to the Centre and would like to be a part of a fun and enthusiastic team. The position has the following main functions: Program Coordination and Team Support: Provide leadership support to the Coordinator, including program coordination and mentoring team members. Practice and Team Culture: Maintain up to date practice (case management, client records etc), while supporting team wellbeing, a strong practice framework and operating within the broader NCC team structure. Program Delivery: Contribute to program implementation, including daily operations, group work, counselling if possible and parent education activities. Community Development and engagement: Build and maintain relationships with community members, government stakeholders and other groups where possible and appropriate. Planning and Budgeting: Support program planning, evaluation, and reporting of outcomes and expenditure to funding bodies. Quality, Risk and Compliance: Ensure risks are identified and managed appropriately, maintain compliance with all statutory requirements and maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation. Governance: to occasionally represent the team at committee meetings. Key Responsibilities Program coordination and team support: Support TF Coordinator in leading the TF program Provide leadership (with other senior social workers) in the absence of the TF coordinator. Support and lead team meetings and case discussions. Input into the development of TF state and federal programs. Contribute to staff recruitment, on-boarding, retention, mentoring, performance and engagement. Social work practice Demonstrated knowledge of social work principles and practices and an understanding of trauma as it applies to families and interpersonal relationships. Demonstrated understanding of complex issues such as Family Court; Child Protection; Family and Domestic Violence; Mental Health and how these impact family and interpersonal relationships and wellbeing. Maintain and evaluate Thriving Families framework of practice in collaboration with Coordinator and team members. Maintaining knowledge of current legislative environment as it relates to social work practice. Thriving Families team culture Nurture a positive team culture and environment where innovation and new ideas that improve service delivery can be constructively explored, encouraged and implemented. Support self-care and staff well-being practices including supervision. ? Program delivery Support TF Headquarters drop-in service, group facilitation and parent education. Maintain a limited case load including case noting via CRM and associated reporting. Provide centre based counselling services to family members to improve health and wellbeing - includes keeping file notes. Up to 8 hours per week. (if counselling skills are in place) Provide student supervision for practice development.? Community development and engagement Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with families, community members, government stakeholders and other groups where possible and appropriate. Represent TF at meetings, conferences and workshops where required in consultation with TF Coordinator. Support the identification of community needs through engagement and feedback. Planning and budget Participate in budget planning and review processes to ensure TF's revenue and expenditure targets are met. Source grant funding opportunities and prepare new grant applications to continue existing services and develop new ones where able and appropriate. Support the data collection and evaluation of all programs and projects with accurate, thorough and timely reporting in accordance with funding agreements. Quality, Risk and Compliance Input into the development of policy and procedures as required for the quality operations of the Centre including HSQF Audit. Contribute to the Workplace Health and Safety working requirements and procedures of TF. Support TF Coordinator to monitor the work of TF programs to ensure that all TF activities comply with legislation and funding requirements. Working understanding and implementation of 10 Qld Child Safe Standards and cultural safety. Governance and Reporting Support the maintenance of NCC policies and procedures. Occasionally attend committee meetings to report on behalf of the TF team/Coordinator Other responsibilities Small operating budget. Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications Qualifications and Experience: Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, with a minimum of 5 years experience in community services or directly related practice working alongside individuals, families and communities. Counselling skills desirable. Practice Approach: Demonstrated knowledge of a range of progressive social work practices, including feminist practice and anti oppressive frameworks. Practice knowledge around early intervention principles/practices with family oriented programs, and an understanding of the diverse models of parenting and issues affecting families and children. Knowledge Base: Experience working with diverse communities and working alongside people experiencing DFV, AOD and mental health Group Work and Facilitation: Proven ability and enthusiasm for working with people in group settings and facilitating group processes. Leadership and coordination skills Demonstrated planning and coordination skills including leadership, management/mentoring of staff, taking initiative, community conflict processes, stakeholder management, advocacy and organisational representation. Communication Excellent written and verbal communication including experience in service and project reporting, submission and grant writing (desirable), case notes, CRM and online system navigation. Reporting and compliance: Sound knowledge of government and statutory compliance standards including child safety and cultural safety. Other AFP and WWCC (Bluecard) current or willingness to obtain Current C Class drivers license Applications This role is until December 2026.
