The hospitals provide both public and private services for people living in Perth's eastern suburbs and nearby regional areas. The hospital includes an Accident and Emergency Department, critical care unit, mental health unit, and maternity ward. Your Role at St John of God Healthcare, Midland Hospital The Clinical Nurse in the Stroke/GEM Unit delivers advanced, patient-centred care to patients with stroke and complex geriatric needs. The role involves assessment, care planning, and coordination of multidisciplinary care to support recovery and safe discharge. As a clinical leader, the nurse supports staff, promotes best practice, and contributes to quality improvement while ensuring high standards of care aligned with organisational values. This role will be providing a high standard of patient care, acts as a clinical resource and effectively manages resources to deliver quality patient outcomes in Aged Care and Rehabilitation. The Position Supervises nursing practice and takes responsibility for standard of nursing care delivered. Acts a clinical resource, maintains and develops clinical skills relevant to area of practice. Initiates reviews and coordinates care of patients with complex health problems. Actively contributes to the development of clinical policies and procedures in area of specialty. Ensures documentation meets hospital standards and legal requirements. Is aware of and works in accordance with SGJHC policies and procedures, including Equal Employment Opportunity, Confidentiality and Privacy. Coordinates the department effectively ensuring continuity of care and takes action on problems encountered. Participates in the performance management of caregivers in conjunction with the Nurse Manager. Supervises the practice of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Patient Care Assistants. Encourages the development of relationships with all hospital and visiting staff, which promote a harmonious working environment. The Position Requirements You will hold registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse, with significant and recent post-registration experience in Stroke Nursing and the ability to practice at an advanced level. You will have well-developed leadership skills, including the ability to supervise, give direction and delegate to the team. To succeed you will have the ability to plan, assess and develop team and individual performance as well as the ability to identify and solve problems including conflict resolution. You will have demonstrated commitment to personal ongoing education and professional development, commitment to nursing and other clinical projects that are implemented to improve patient care and a high level of communication skills. Knowledge of relevant acts, codes and standards relevant to current practice is essential.
